  • Remembrance Day at Upton Court Grammar School

Over a thousand staff and students commemorated Remembrance Day at Upton Court Grammar School on Monday 11 November. Adorning traditional red poppies, students gathered in the assembly hall to remember the sacrifice of British war heroes from the First and Second World Wars, as well as from more recent conflicts such as in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Principal Mercedes Hernández Estrada addressed students, and spoke of the courage and commitment of soldiers that gave their lives. Reverend Julie Wearing from St Peter's Church in Chalvey also spoke, and invited members of the school to hold two minutes silence to reflect and remember the dead from all conflicts around the world.

Mrs Hernández Estrada also laid a wreath under a plaque listing the names of former students of the school that died in World Wars 1 & 2. She said “We honour past members of the school and also reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by so many throughout history. We live in hope of a more peaceful world and how we can contribute to it”.
