  • School Celebrates Students' Success

Staff, students and parents of Upton Court Grammar School celebrated success at the annual Awards Evening ceremony held on Thursday 19 September. Subject prizes were awarded to students for exceptional performance at GCSE and A Level, as well as special prizes in music, arts and sport.

Former teachers were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to the school and were awarded fellowships. Pete Rieley served as a teacher of mathematics for 38 years (1972 – 2010) and still holds the school record of 100% A grades at A level in that subject.

Dave Rogers began at the school in 1963 and taught classics and acted as house master and staff governor, before retiring in the year 2000.

Dave Thomson was also awarded a fellowship. He began at the school in 1974 and taught history for over 36 years.

The school invited Nigel Miller, the school’s chair of governors, as the guest of honour. Mr Miller is an entrepreneur working in the schools extra-curricular activity market and was formerly the managing director of World Challenge.

Upton Court Grammar School Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “We are taking time to reflect upon and celebrate the successes of students who sat exams in the summer. We know that the young people collecting prizes tonight are the future and we use Prize Giving to reflect on their legacy in the years to come.”
