| Food Technology
Food Technology in the sixth form Working toward GCSE, students come to realise the importance of research in food technology, an emphasis that is retained throughout the A Level course. Students will be looking specifically at product analysis, design research, and consumer product management. Research into these areas provides a critical insight to the modern food industry. Through their study, students will be able to show an understanding of these theoretical areas as well as being able to demonstrate solid practical skills. Knowledge gained previously, such as nutrition, cultural influences on food, and the use of ICT in relation to food, will all be called upon as students face the design challenges of their A level course. Assessment Work will be assessed via coursework and examination. Coursework continues throughout the course, the AS examination takes place in year 12, the A2 examination in year 13. A pass at AS level is essential for those wishing to follow the course at A2 level. Enrichment activities While food technology is taught in our well-equipped food tech rooms, we also make good use of ICT facilities. This becomes particularly important for sixth form students who may be considering entering the food industry, a place where ICT skills are becoming increasingly important. Beyond the sixth form Students wishing to consider a food related career could consider seeking further education or employment in areas such as catering, food production, catering and hotel management, and food marketing.
