German in the sixth form Working at an advanced level, students will continue to work with the key elements of the German language, particularly enhancing their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing German. This work is contextualised as students continue to study German culture. The description of the course content is quite short, but that doesn’t stop the course from being a deep and valuable learning experience. Combining the course with our wide range of enrichment activities provides Slough Grammar School Sixth Form students with an unrivalled opportunity to flourish in this rewarding, practical subject. Assessment Work will be assessed via coursework and examination. Coursework continues throughout the course, the AS examination takes place in year 12, the A2 examination in year 13. A pass at AS level is essential for those wishing to follow the course at A2 level. Enrichment activities Having achieved specialist Language College status, Slough Grammar School is equipped and staffed to offer a broad range of high quality language enrichment activities. From visits to Germany, through exchange programmes to modern foreign language ICT activities, students are encouraged to open their minds and develop their skills. Complementary languages studies are also available, allowing students to explore Portuguese, Russian, Italian and Chinese. It is our intention that our students will be ready and able to take their place in a word where language skills, and understanding of other cultures, are becoming increasingly important. Beyond the sixth form Language qualifications will help those pupils wishing to consider further education or employment in areas such as teaching, travel, leisure and tourism, economics, politics and many other disciplines: never before have language skills been so useful, or in such demand.
