Business Studies in the sixth form
Whether a student is preparing for further education, or employment A Level business studies will provide a valuable insight to how business works. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of many critical business functions. Specifically, students will explore business ownership and objectives, the external environments in which business functions and the influences exerted by that environment. They will investigate operations and human resource management, finance, statistics and marketing as well as undertaking a thorough business based research project.

In addition to meeting the criteria of the A Level curriculum, we aim to demonstrate to students the importance of business and the interaction between the diverse areas that come together to make a business work. Using our external industry links, students will gain a realistic view of business and the part it plays in society. Students will be able to further develop their IT skills via their research project which, as well as building their knowledge, allows them to use IT in a practical and real way.

Assessment
Work will be assessed via enquiry and examination. The AS examination takes place in year 12, the A2 examination in year 13. A pass at AS level is essential for those wishing to follow the course at A2 level. The course consists of six units, three that are completed at AS level and three at A2 level.

Enrichment activities
Students taking business studies at A Level will be able to participate in our Young Enterprise scheme and a cabinet Seminar. All of these activities have a clear and strong focus on business related matters and help to add context and value to what is learnt. These practical activities will provide a productive addition to CVs and application forms.

Beyond the sixth form
An A Level in business studies will be invaluable to students seeking a university, or further education placement. This course would be of practical value to those seeking further education or employment in areas such as economics, business, marketing, law, human resources, information systems, politics and accountancy.
