| Drama and Theatre Studies
Drama and Theatre Studies in the sixth form Having taken GCSE drama, students will be prepared to build upon their skills and understanding at A Level. Students will continue to explore relevant texts and in the sixth form two will be studied in detail. Students will develop two directed performances based upon studied texts and both will be performed in public. Students will create a Children’s Theatre and take that out into the real world using our links with local schools. The Children’s Theatre will visit local primary schools where students will work with the pupils. From creation, through organisation and planning to execution, this process provides a beautifully rounded learning experience. Of course, in any performer the ability to think in critical terms is invaluable. As well as being encouraged to think critically about their own performance and that of their peers, students will spend time learning to analyse live performances. Assessment Work will be assessed via coursework and examination. Coursework continues throughout the course, the AS examination takes place in year 12, the A2 examination in year 13. A pass at AS level is essential for those wishing to follow the course at A2 level. Enrichment activities Drama is an enriching activity: developing confidence, teamwork, creativity, communication and negotiation skills - all valuable assets throughout life. We offer extracurricular activities to enhance the learning experience. Students have an opportunity to learn (and gain a certificate in) lighting and the prospect of joining the Raw Talent Theatre Company: a year 10 to 13 company that performs regularly throughout the school region. Beyond the sixth form Many students will go on to study drama, theatre or dance at university, or drama school, which can lead to employment in theatre, television and broadcasting.
