Economics in the sixth form Our world functions economically in many ways; from government to global corporations the use of economic processes has an impact on us all. Students studying at A Level will come to understand the way in which these economic processes work and the impact they have. Specifically, students will explore markets, how the economy is managed, industrial economics, labour markets and the global economy. In addition to meeting the criteria of the A Level curriculum, we aim to demonstrate to students the importance of economics and the role it plays in global development. Students will explore the subject in depth, understand the concepts involved, interpret and communicate their findings in an appropriate manner. IT skills will play an important part in this and these skills will be further developed as students put them to practical use during the course. Analytical skills will also be developed. Assessment Work will be assessed via examination. The AS examination takes place in year 12, the A2 examination in year 13. A pass at AS level is essential for those wishing to follow the course at A2 level. Enrichment activities Students taking economics at A Level will be able to participate in visits from course examiners, attendance at student conferences, a visit to the European Parliament and access to regular economic updates from the Internet and other sources. All of these activities have a clear and strong focus on business related matters and help to add context and value to what is learnt. These practical activities will provide a productive addition to CVs and application forms. Beyond the sixth form An A Level in economics will be invaluable to students seeking a university, or further education placement. This course would be of practical value to those seeking further education or employment in areas such as economics, business, marketing, law, human resources, accountancy, and local or central government.
