Applied A Level Travel and Tourism
What this course offers Students studying on this course will learn about the travel and tourism industry by looking at three key areas; the business, what is on offer, and customers. Understanding the business of travel and tourism will come via exploring how tour operators work and how their businesses are structured, how they manage human resources and how they market their business. To gain an understanding of what this sector offers, students will investigate tourist attractions, countryside recreation and travel destinations. This is rounded off by learning about the consumer through the important topic of customer service. The Edexcel Applied A Level in travel and tourism offers units at AS and A2. The AS units aim to give an overview of the industry to build a sound knowledge of travel and tourism issues, from which students can build the deeper understanding required for the A2 units. This broad and rounded course will equip students with the knowledge required by further education and employment. Their skills and understanding will allow them to make the most of further education, or to present themselves as a valuable member of staff should they seek employment in the exciting and fast moving travel and tourism sector. Enrichment activities Students studying Applied A Level Travel and Tourism will be able to participate in a range of extracurricular activities, all of which have a clear and strong focus on business related matters. This adds context and value to what is learnt on the course. Activities include our Young Enterprise scheme, the Shares for Schools programme, work experience placements, and a cabinet Seminar. These practical activities provide a productive addition to CVs and application forms. Beyond the sixth form Vocational courses can be useful to students seeking a university or further education placement. However, as vocational courses lean more toward the world of work, they are often selected by those interested in seeking employment after the sixth form. This course would be of practical value to those seeking further education or employment in any area of travel and tourism. The course is also constructive for those interested in the leisure industry, recreational management, marketing and business. |
